Museum of Online Failure

Ghostsites are pages which can be still found on the internet, but apart from simple opening and closing cannot be further consulted. The owners/webmasters said their good-bye, sometimes under a false premise of ‘being back’ soon. Often they went bankrupt or ran out of possibilities to maintain the site. The contents may vary from apologetics and self-pity to complaints and outspoken anger. By painting and exhibiting these homepages, their formerly useless and forgotten meaning underwent a radical turn. Elevated to the status of art, they gained new importance and new interest, this time from art public. Losers became winners.
