Lucy May Tomlins combines the concept of readymade with advanced craftsmanship, resulting in beautifully crafted sculptures and crisp-sharp photographs of everyday consumer objects. Her installation at the 2012 RCA Graduates show focused on food industry, with packaged meals, fast food containers or a broken supermarket trolley, reconstructed from MDF, resin, marble, steel, plasticine etc. The created objects were then either photographed or displayed within illuminated flashy containers. The result was pretty striking – a successful morph between Andy Warhol and Hany Armanious, with Marcel Duchamp’s spirit – winning the artist the Deutsche Bank Award.
