Polish-born & London-based artist Alexandra Mir examines the dynamics of popular cultural myths and historical events. For the next few months you can see her project The Seduction of Galileo Galilei @ the Whitney Museum in NYC. As hinted by the title, Mir engages here in a dialogue with the father of modern science & this through video documenting a collaborative, Galileo-inspired gravitational experiment. In simple terms: she instructs a crane operator to stack tires on top of each other until they fall over.
Also on display is a selection of collages from Mir’s series The Dream and the Promise, combining religious iconography with that of space travel.
Acting as a matchmaker between science and faith, Mir asks: “If angels and astronauts share the same sky, isn’t it time they were introduced?” By all means!
