“Mystery Girls”, Dutch artist Jeroen Eisinga‘s solo show @ Zic Zerp gallery in Rotterdam opens this Sunday.
The works which will be presented combine visual mysteries with narrative mysteries of the mass-media. The smile of the Mona Lisa (Duchamp’s version), is combined with the story of Sabine Dardenne – the girl that was kidnapped by Marc Dutroux. Both have the same inscrutable smile. In a similar manner, a sixteen century painting of a young girl with a dead bird is combined with a portrait of Maddy McCann, a British girl abducted a few years ago and never found. The artist cut and pasted the portraits together into a rough collage, which can be also seen as an assembly of past and present.
The exhibition runs till 15 November.
