Matthew Herbert‘s new album is out & it’s the most controversial one until now.
The electronic music guru came up with a original concept of registering & mixing the various sounds in a life of one pig. Staring from its birth and ending with its death in a slaughterhouse, the period of 6 month is presented by various actual sounds: made by the pig itself or recorded from its immediate environement.
Herbert was not able (due to Britain’s food laws) to record the actual sounds during the slaughter, so the album finishes with the consequent butchering, followed by a meal.
We have listened to some extracts through Guardian and it is a pretty powerful, engaging stuff. So is, btw, Herbert’s Manifesto and his explanation of the concept of the project.
