Sharing an infamous identity, the subjects in Kim Guthrie‘s new project – I’m Banksy - are reframed by virtue of a T-shirt and a camera; Kim has crowd-shared Banksy’s anonymity and infamy unto the masses. Each person photographed is crowned with the possible thrill of suspicion of being ‘the one’! Which allows us to speculate that we are all our own ‘the one’.
When his fellow slaves stood up and declared ‘I am Spartacus‘ the anonymous members of the slave revolt became, each and every one, the arch enemy of Rome.
By accosting people on the street and making generous portraits Kim Guthrie reasserts the democratic potentials of the genrefied ‘Street art‘ movement.
