Next to the Istanbul gallery Rampa, presenting art dealing with Turkish society & culture, a Tokyo-based dealer Take Ninagawa joins the still rather small number of non-West European/ American oriented galleries on the fair.

Take Ninagawa is showing Japanese artist Aki Sasamoto, who creates multimedia sculptural environments in which she stages live performances. Sasamoto’s work is very physical (she is a trained boxer) and very personal, incorporating her childhood nightmares into her pieces. Her installation for Frame, titled E_O, is partially inspired by local worship culture & rituals. The altar-like structure created from pipe stands, towels, plastic bags, paper, pierced lemons etc serves also as a setting for live artist performance (twice a day, at 2 and 4 pm).
